Can a Claude artifact have its own domain?

The artifact link and your own web address are two different destinations. Choose the one you need before you publish.

TL;DR

Claude’s Publish button gives you a public link on Anthropic’s domain, with no custom domain option. To use your own address, take the website files to a host that supports it, or let Claude publish them through a connector such as SayLive. The page can start in an artifact; its final home does not have to be the artifact link.

What does the Publish button actually give you?

You have a page you like in Claude, and now you want to send someone an address. The Publish button handles one version of that request: it makes the artifact available through a public link on Anthropic’s domain. Anyone with that link can view and use it without a Claude account. For a demonstration or a draft you want someone to try, that may be all you need.

As checked on 2 October 2026, Free, Pro and Max have Publish; Team and Enterprise use Share & copy link. Anthropic’s artifact guidance describes no option to connect your own domain. Renaming the artifact does not supply that missing hosting feature.

Decide what the address needs to do. If you are showing a rough direction to a colleague, keep the artifact link. If the address belongs on a client’s business card, prepare the site for a host that accepts the client’s domain.

What moves when you leave the artifact?

You move the website files: the HTML that describes the page, the CSS that styles it, browser JavaScript for interactions, and its images. Ask Claude to identify the complete set before choosing a destination. A page that looks finished in a preview may still refer to a missing image or depend on code outside that page.

If the result is a React project, ask for a static build first: the finished files a browser can read. If a feature needs a server, such as checking a password against a database, moving a page alone will not move that feature. SayLive serves static sites and does not run server code, accounts or databases.

Prepare this artifact as a complete website for static hosting. Include every page, style, browser script and image. Identify anything that depends on a server or on the preview environment. Preserve the approved design and tell me what still needs replacing before publication.

Which route fits your own domain?

RouteWhat you doOwn domain
Claude artifact linkPublish the artifact inside ClaudeNo custom domain option described
Netlify DropDrag an exported site folder into the browserCustom domains with SSL on Free
Just PublishUpload files, a folder or a ZIP, or use MCPOne custom domain on Builder
SayLiveAsk Claude to publish static files through the connectorConnection included once the site is paid

Prices checked on 2 October 2026: Netlify Free is $0 with a monthly allocation of 300 credits covering deploys, compute, bandwidth and requests. Just Publish Builder is $9/month, month to month. Its free tier has no custom domain and is archived after 30 days without traffic. SayLive gives 30 days free with a small banner, then costs €99 once per site, without a subscription.

Choose the file route if you want to handle the upload yourself. Choose a connector if you want Claude to send the files from the conversation. The Claude publishing guide covers the destination choices and connector setup without making you reconstruct the process from several articles.

How do you move from preview to your address?

  1. Ask Claude for the complete static site and a list of missing content or unsupported features. Resolve those before uploading anything.
  2. Choose the host and either send the exported folder yourself or connect the publishing tool using the assistant guide.
  3. Publish the prepared files, then open the resulting site on a phone and a computer. Test images, navigation and the contact action.
  4. Connect the domain you own using that host’s instructions. With SayLive, pay for the site before connecting the domain; connection is included.
  5. Open the custom address and test it again. Keep a copy of the approved files and record which version you delivered.

The domain is the address; hosting is where the files are served. Keep those two decisions separate when planning the move. The domain name guide explains the distinction. A custom address does not repair missing files or turn a static page into a server application.

What should you keep after publication?

Save the version you approved, its public address and any remaining work. With SayLive, versions and rollback let you return to an earlier publication, and any version can be downloaded as a ZIP. The documentation covers that workflow. This gives the next edit a clear starting point, even if you return to the project later.

Do not unpublish an artifact as a routine step in moving the website. Anthropic says an unpublished artifact cannot be published again, and unpublishing permanently deletes its storage data. Decide separately whether that original link should remain available.

Before you circulate the final address, check the content as carefully as the hosting. Replace sample names, invented testimonials and unfinished contact details. The review before publishing gives you a practical order for that last pass.

Frequently asked

Can I point my domain directly at a Claude artifact?

Claude’s artifact publishing guidance describes no custom domain option. To serve the website at your own address, prepare its files and publish them on a host that supports domains.

Do visitors need a Claude account?

Anyone with a published artifact link can view and use it without a Claude account, according to Anthropic’s guidance checked on 2 October 2026.

Can Claude Free publish through SayLive?

Yes. SayLive works through MCP with Claude on every plan, including Free. The SayLive site has a 30-day free trial, then costs €99 once.

Does paying SayLive include a domain connection?

Yes. Connecting your own domain is included once the site is paid. That is a connection for a domain you own, not a promise to supply a domain name.

Will every artifact work on a static host?

Check its dependencies first. HTML, CSS, browser JavaScript and images fit static hosting. Features requiring server code, accounts or a database need a suitable application host.
