How to put an HTML file online without GitHub
You have the HTML. A folder upload or a publishing connector can give it a public address without creating a repository.

TL;DR
Put an HTML file online without GitHub by uploading the complete site to Netlify Drop or Just Publish, or by asking your assistant to publish it through SayLive. You need the HTML and every file it refers to, but you do not need a repository. Choose an upload if the files are already on your computer, or a connector if they are ready in the conversation.
What do you need besides the HTML file?
Start by checking whether the page really is one file. Some HTML contains its styles and scripts inside it. Other pages refer to a stylesheet, a script and a folder of images. Uploading only the HTML in that second case can leave you with an unstyled page or empty image spaces.
Ask whoever prepared the page to give you one complete folder with index.html at its top level and the supporting files in their expected places. Keep the filenames and folder relationships intact. A reference to images/photo.jpg needs a matching file inside an images folder; a path to a file on your desktop will not work for visitors.
If an assistant gave you a React project instead of a finished HTML site, ask it to build the static output first. Publishing starts with files the browser can use. A folder full of source code may still need preparation before it becomes that deliverable.
Which service needs what?
| Option | What you supply | Own domain | Cost checked 2 October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netlify Drop | An exported site folder dragged into the browser; a free account to keep it | Included with SSL on Free | $0 Free; 300 credits per month |
| Just Publish | A ZIP, folder or files; MCP is also available | One custom domain on Builder; none on Free | $0 Free; Builder $9/month |
| SayLive | Static files sent by your assistant through MCP | Connection included once paid | 30 days free, then €99 once per site |
Netlify’s pricing counts deploys, compute, bandwidth and requests against the Free allocation. Just Publish’s free tier allows 50 MB per site, 500 files and 5 MB per file, and archives a site after 30 days without traffic. Builder is month to month, allows 200 MB per site, includes analytics and is never archived.
These limits matter more than whether the first upload takes one click or three. Check your largest images and how long the page should remain available without attention. If you want the assistant to handle publishing, the publishing guides give you the route for your assistant.
How do you publish with a folder upload?
- Put the HTML and its supporting files in one folder. Open the page and check that the content is the version you intend to share.
- For Netlify Drop, drag the exported folder into the browser. It goes live on a netlify.app address; use a free account to keep it.
- For Just Publish, upload the folder, the files or a ZIP. Its free sites use a justpublish.site address. Pick the plan based on your domain and size requirements.
- Open the returned address in a fresh browser window. Follow links, inspect images and test the contact action on a phone as well as a computer.
- Save the exact folder you uploaded and the resulting address. Use that folder as the starting point for the next correction.
The upload moves the files you supplied. It does not fill in a missing photograph, replace an invented testimonial or make an unfinished form work. If something is absent online, check the folder and the page’s file references before assuming that the host lost it.
How do you publish from the chat instead?
SayLive receives static files from the assistant over MCP. It works with Claude on every plan including Free, ChatGPT in developer mode on paid plans, Le Chat, Cursor, Codex and Gemini CLI. The assistant sends the site from the conversation, so you can keep the task in the place where you were already editing.
Check that this is a complete static site, including every stylesheet, script and image. List any missing files or server dependencies. If the SayLive connector is available and the site is ready, publish it and give me the live address. Otherwise tell me what is missing.
Use the documentation for the connector and publication workflow. SayLive includes versions and rollback, a contact form and a review link with screenshots. Any version can be downloaded as a ZIP, so you can keep a copy of what was published.
SayLive costs €99 once per site after a 30-day free trial with a small banner. That includes 150 publications, 50 MB of media, 25 form messages and 25 review tickets. Top-ups cost €19 each and do not renew. Check the price and included allowances against how often you expect to update the page.
When should you connect your own domain?
Connect it when the content and the address are ready to circulate together. You can review the page first at the host’s supplied address. A domain is useful when the name itself matters, such as a studio, an event or a client’s business. It is a separate choice from whether you used GitHub.
Netlify Free includes custom domains with SSL. Just Publish requires Builder for one custom domain. SayLive includes connecting your own domain once the site is paid. The domain guide explains what the address does and what still belongs to hosting.
Test the final address again before sending it widely. A successful upload is only the first check. The useful finish is a page whose content is approved, whose links work and whose files you can find again when someone asks for an edit.
Frequently asked
Do I need GitHub to host an HTML page?
No. Folder and file uploads, or an assistant publishing through MCP, can put a static page online without a repository.
Can I upload just one HTML file?
Yes, if it contains everything the page needs. If it refers to separate images, stylesheets or scripts, include those files too and preserve their paths.
Which option gives me a free link?
As checked on 2 October 2026, Netlify Drop publishes on netlify.app and a free account keeps it. Just Publish also has a free tier, archived after 30 days without traffic.
Can I add a domain later?
Choose a host and plan that support it. Netlify Free includes custom domains, Just Publish Builder includes one, and SayLive includes the connection once the site is paid.
What if my HTML page needs server code?
Static hosting serves the files but cannot execute that server code. Ask the assistant to identify the dependency and choose a host capable of running it. SayLive does not run server code or databases.
